Mother Daughter Campout

We had such a great time at the Mother Daughter Camp Out!  We went to the river and splashed around.  On our way there we came across a field full of raspberries so of course we had to stop and eat them!  Once we got to the river we discovered a teepee and explored a hidden cave.  We then acted out a camp murder mystery (We have some amazing actresses by the way!) by a bon fire.  Next we had a special spiritual message about holding on to the Iron Rod and roasted s'mores.  Of course the night didn't end there.  We teased our hair (flash back from the 80's), made our hair look like Justin Beiber's, had a photo shoot and on and on.  The next morning the girls got some shooting practice in and came back tribal painted faces. Great memories were made!  Looking forward to our next adventure!

Pulling weeds and dusing blinds? Oh My!

A few Wednesdays ago I had the opportunity to help out with the combined service project night.  I had no idea that it was that fun. Seriously!  The service project was a service scavenger hunt to a designated family's house.  From our list the family could choose what we should do for them or they had the opportunity to tell us what to do and we got points for each completed task.  The teams gathered back at the church to see who scored the highest.  There was much anticipation waiting for the teams to all arrive and the scores seemed to keep getting higher and higher.  When all said and done, it wasn't about the score or who won, now was it?  It was fun listening to everyone's adventure.  Yes, it was service but it was also creating memories and opportunities to learn.  What topped it all off was that I heard some of the families still talking (weeks later) about how appreciative they were for the youth helping them out with some projects.  They said its so wonderful to see how giving our youth is and they were truly grateful!    ~ Sister Winters

Daddy-Daughter Date!

Thank you everyone who came to participate in the Daddy-Daughter date night! It was so great seeing everyone there! We began the evening with a fun game of Jeopardy in which the Daddys and Daughters got to answer questions about each other. We then split into three groups to play some games---Just Dance on the Xbox, backwards charades, and Catchphrase. I wish I had some of the video footage from the dancing dad's to include on the blog, but it's too extreme to post:) Needless to say, it was hilarious!

After the games we all enjoyed chocolate fondue and some downtime as the dad's read their letters to the girls.

It was a fun night!

The UN-Miss America Pageant

We had a great time at YW this week participating in the 1st Annual UN-Miss America Pageant! The girls were amazing and really showcased their dance moves, talents, and fashion sense! We started the evening with a dance-down to "Shake if Off" then moved to the talent portion of the night. We were impressed with some incredibly fast-talking, heard some lovely piano playing, the worm, a butt-head (sorry Sister Cooper), as well as some impressive poetry by Brooke. We were happy for the reminder not to worry about what others may think of us but to focus on simply being ourselves.

After the talent show, the young women had 15 minutes to prepare an evening gown, and you can see they did not disappoint! The catwalk showcase was truly mind-blowing!

We finished the evening with some "Would you rather" interview questions and enjoyed refreshments, courtesy of Sister Coleman.

We already can't wait until next year! In the meantime, enjoy some of our favorite jokes from the night...

  • What do you call a group of unorganized cats? A cat-astrophe!
  • Why did the bicycle fall over? Because it was two-tired!
  • How do you organize a space party? You plan-et.
  • Knock, knock. -Who's there?
    • Boo.
    • Boo who?
    • Please don't cry. It's only a joke.
  • How do you make a tissue dance? Put a little boogie in it.
